The extended vacation, sabbatical, leave is now OVER and back to the party time biz ……

To begin … What’s Wrong With Southern Soul ? YOU ARE . I was talking to a legendary jock recently and he told me that he was doing liners for the other shows on the station during his breaks …  THAT IS A NORMAL THING TO DO. Promoting other shows / station events keeps your audience informed about the STATION. He went out and bought a stand, typed up the liners for the other jocks to use and to his surprise found the rack and liners thrown about the control room the next day.

BULLETIN … Radio Veteran …. Ms. Rusty J is seriously ILL and needs support from her radio family. Our heartfelt prayers certainly go out to her. Rusty has been a loyal & passionate  supporter of Southern Soul and Blues for many years on WNHU in CT. The woman’s a certified musicologist  who is an inspiration to artists, producers, and ALL folk in the biz. Lets show her some LOVE NOW .  Please send her cards and well wishes to :

Here’s a thought …  Jack –The – Rapper had hiz mellow yellow from which this publication takes much inspiration from BUT we’ve never had an official name for it so from now on this newsletter will be called the RUSTY in honor of our friend Ms. Rusty J.  Radio veteran  … A. We have no exact word on the format or announcers slated to assault the Baton Rouge airwaves with a fresh sound BUT we understand the signal will be much better than city grade baby.

Bell's artist debut in the 1960's, "You Don't Miss Your Water," was one of the Stax label's first big hits. Among William Bell's many classic catalog songs include, "Everybody Loves a Winner," "Any Other Way," "Never Like This Before," "A Tribute to a King," "I Forgot to be Your Lover," "Private Number" and the perennial Christmas music favorite, "Every Day Will Be Like a Holiday." Bell also composed "Born Under A Bad Sign" for the legendary blues man, Albert King. Mel Waiters … is a true Southern Soul superstar, no he is THE SOUL STAR of this generation and has the no. 1 song on SBR’s Top 25 Soul Chart for some time now (“ I Ain’t Gone Do It” ) . He tours constantly to sold out audiences and has sold several hundred thousand records during his career BUT can’t get major radio airplay  where needed. Mel Waiters actually carries the Soul Banner for all of us in this party time biz. While other potential stars have faded and eventually failed , he has endured year after year. We NEED to bring this record home so and play it every week on your shows.There is a problem in radio these days and we’ve got to fix it. Da Rumor man sez …. Marvelous Mel Waiters started in radio soooo he knows what the PEOPLE want. It is a pity that RADIO has failed to realize that.  Southern Soul Sampler 14 is in the record books … Leela James, Lenny Williams, Kelly Price, Margo Thunder, Wilson Meadows, Pantheress and others are all making impressive gains @ major radio stations nationwide.
